So can your confined space supervisor supervise multiple confined space works?

The law in Singapore did not specifically mention that you need to have a confined space supervisor for each confined space job.

As long as the company can reasonably prove that the supervisor is given the ability to supervise more than one confined space at the same time without a drop in quality.

For example, if the confined space supervisor needs to exit one confined space to enter another confined space to supervise both confined spaces, then this is probably not acceptable.

This is because at any one time, he is only supervising one, although he is running here and there. If an accident were to happen inside while the supervisor is in another confined space, good luck to the company that allow such practices to happen.

If investigator asks questions such as ” Was the supervisor looking at the worker working when the accident happened”, it will be hard for the company to explain.

The logic is that if the supervisor is looking at the worker and corrected the worker’s mistake, the accident could had been prevented, therefore the company did not discharge their duties properly.

Simple question yet hard to answer.

However, if you use a camera or whatever supervising technology to aid in the supervision of confined spaces, then you can have a chance of debating with MOM that you can achieve the same supervising result.

All in all, based on the current technology and industrial practices, it is challenging for 1 supervisor to monitor multiple confined space, so just stick to one supervisor for each confined space work.
