Do you know that for your safety harness to work properly, it need at least 7 meters?
If you are new in the safety industry, what I am telling you in this post likely be confusing to you.
This is because for every work at hight activities in your company, most probably, the only fall protection system you see is safety harness with shock absorber lanyard.

Wearing such equipment actually gives workers a false sense of security when they work below 7 meters.
If you see the break down of the length in the lanyard, workers will hit the ground before the safety harness even work.

Although the length of the lanyard varies from each manufacturer, the concept is the same. They will land on the ground even before the fall protection equipment even serves its purpose.
They are theoretically not adequately protected. (I know people will say these shock absorbers will not activate because they are designed for western people who are heavier and taller. But if the shock absorber opens up, you go explain to the court yourself. )
Workers in most construction companies you see outside are given traditional lanyards like these which obviously because it is cheaper.
But the problem is, most of these lanyards are not designed to work below a height of 7 meters.
I can almost bet with you, most work at height activities that is done in your company is below 7m. So stop giving workers such equipment when they obviously will not work as intended.
There are many other alternative methods to protect workers who are working at heights of less than 7 meters from falling, which I will cover next time when I am free.
